Daniel A. Neuhalfen, age 83, of Crofton, Nebraska, died Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Monday, February 19, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, Nebraska with Reverend Timothy Podraza officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton, Nebraska with military honors provided by the Crofton American Legion Post 31 and the American Legion Riders. Visitation is from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton with a Vigil Service at 3:00 PM. Pallbearers are Steve Neuhalfen, Tyrone Neuhalfen, Joe Neuhalfen, T.J. Harmelink, Hunter Neuhalfen, London Capozi, Jordan Schaeffer, and Justin Neuhalfen. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Daniel A. Neuhalfen was born March 30, 1934, near Hartington, Nebraska, to Anthony and Veronica (Gubbels) Neuhalfen. He began working at a very young age as a brick layer until enlisting into the Army during the Korean War. He serves as a paratrooper under the 82nd Airborne until his honorable discharge in 1956. He married Yvonne “Bonnie” Boardman on January 23, 1956 in Crofton, Nebraska. They owned the feed store in Crofton for a while until moving to Michigan, where Dan worked in manufacturing. They later returned to the Crofton area and owned the Lakeview Resort in Santee, Nebraska. Dan later began working at Kolberg Pioneer in Yankton, South Dakota and continued at Kolberg’s until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement they began wintering in Texas. Dan was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton as well as the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, “tinkering”, and especially dancing with Bonnie. Dan was always willing to help build or repair anything and even remodeled and built several homes. Dan had no fear and would never back away from a challenge. He loved his family and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife Yvonne “Bonnie” Neuhalfen of Crofton, Nebraska; three sons: Steve (Kym) Neuhalfen of St. Charles, Michigan; Tyron Neuhalfen of Tabor, South Dakota; and Joseph (Kim) Neuhalfen of Crofton; three daughters: Varyna (Bruce) Hegge of Omaha, Nebraska; Rhonda Harmelink of Yankton, South Dakota; and Denice Peters of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers: William, Jerome and Vincent Neuhalfen; three sisters: Carole Cerny; Alice Prosser and Edna Molina; and many nieces and nephews.
