Cyril “Cy” Joseph Promes age 61 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  He is the husband of Mary Ann. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.  Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Following the vigil service there will not be a receiving line to greet the family.  Visitation will continue on Wednesday, at church, one hour prior to services.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. You may watch a livestream of the Vigil service on Tuesday evening and of the funeral on Wednesday at www.facebook.com/WintzRay/live  Pallbearers will be Jake Promes (nephew), Brandon Fischer (nephew), Dusty Keiser (nephew), Jerry Lewis (brother-in-law), Jeff Carda (friend), and Dale Sudbeck (friend). Honorary pallbearers will be his six children: Jeremy, Ross, Ben, Jason, Brian, and Maria Promes. Cyril “Cy” Joseph was born on March 2, 1960 in Yankton, SD to Elmer Jerome and Sally (Feilmeier) Promes.  Cyril attended grade school at East Catholic and graduated from Wynot High School in 1978.  Cyril married Mary Ann Keiser on October 24, 1981 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce, NE.  After their marriage, Cy and Mary Ann lived in Norfolk where he worked at Goodyear. They then moved to Fordyce and Cy worked at Firestone in Yankton, SD while also helping Mary Ann with her draperies business until expanding to floor coverings and worked side by side every day. In 2005, Cy & Mary Ann purchased Mary Ann’s grandparents farm.  Mary Ann’s mom was born and raised on this acreage which Cy & Mary Ann then made into a beautiful place they call home (Promes Paradise). Cy loved everything about their farm, making many improvements over the years.  He had so many talents and hobbies such as, growing a beautiful garden every year, painting, leatherwork, cooking, as well as fishing and so much more. One of Cy’s favorite things to make was his famous shrimp soup. Most importantly he cherished his wife and spending time with family. Cy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Cy is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 40 years of Crofton; six children Jeremy (Chelsie) Promes of St. Helena, NE (their children Berrix & Brix), Ross (Rachel) Promes of Parker, SD (their children Piper & Pheobe & one on the way), Ben Promes and dog Bailey of Wayne, NE, Jason Promes of Crofton (his daughter Paisllie), Brian Promes of Crofton, Maria Promes of Dakota Dunes, SD; 5 grandchildren; 15 siblings Connie (Bill) Christensen of Hartington; Carol (Kenny) Hochstein of Hartington; Dennis (Rose) Promes of Wynot; Joanie (Kenny) Fuchtman of Omaha; Jerry (Jenny) Promes of Yankton; Nancy (Rod) Fischer of Hartington; Sheila & Don Keiser of Norfolk; Sally & Jerry Lewis of Norfolk; Janice (Doug) Pick of Omaha; Joyce (Mike) Bernard of Omaha; Dean (Denise) Promes of Jefferson, IA; Daryl (Joetta) Promes of Gowrie, IA; Lisa (Bill) Littlejohn of San Diego, CA; Lori (Randy) Olson of Omaha and Sherrie (Clair) Kathol of Glidden, IA; many nieces and nephews. Cy was preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Sally Promes; twin brothers John & Joseph; mother-in-law and father-in-law Ray and Katie Keiser; brother-in-law Kevin Keiser.
