Cory Michael Poelstra

Cory Michael Poelstra, age 36, of Yankton, South Dakota, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home in Yankton.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Riverview Reformed Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Dave Reck officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Cory Michael Poelstra was born July 29, 1989, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Terry and Elaine (Namminga) Poelstra. He grew up and attended school in Yankton where he enjoyed his time playing soccer. He also enjoyed chess club, building Legos and playing poker.  Cory enjoyed his time in the Boy Scouts, especially taking trips to Colorado to go white water rafting and to Hawaii to tour the Big Island. He worked at various construction and manufacturing companies in the Yankton and Sioux Falls areas. While in Sioux Falls, Cory and Carissa Sayler’s daughter, Corryn was born. She was their pride and joy. He moved back to Yankton and began working for Wilson Trailer as a welder.

Cory had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile. He was social, outgoing and adventurous. He enjoyed drawing and riding his motorcycle. He mostly loved spending time with his daughter and Sunday dinners with his family. He loved his sweets, so every time you have a brownie or cookie, remember Cory!

Survivors include his daughter, Corryn Poelstra of Yankton, South Dakota; parents, Terry and Elaine Poelstra of Yankton; brother, Jason Poelstra of Yankton; sister, Emily Poelstra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
