Cindy Kay Wuestewald

Cindy Wuestewald, age 67, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Cindy was born June 30, 1958 in Yankton, South Dakota to Guy and Frieda (Schmidt) Warnock. She grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School. After high school, Cindy worked at Donut World Bakery in downtown Yankton and then at Gurney’s Seed and Nursery. There she met Larry Dean Wuestewald and they were later married on April 12, 1980 in Yankton. Together, they raised three children: Tina, Melissa, and Jerome. Cindy also worked at Service Master in Yankton for 10 years and finally as a janitor for Yankton High School for 10 years until she retired on June 10, 2025.

Cindy loved going on drives with Larry out to the lake to see the deer and eagles. She loved watching the birds, especially the cardinals and blue jays in her backyard. Cindy also loved the company of her many cats. Most of all, Cindy loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always concerned about the needs of others before herself. Cindy was independent and strong, who could do anything she set her mind to. She was loved and will be missed.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Larry Wuestewald of Yankton; three children: Tina Warnock (Russel Whitmore), Melissa Wuestewald, and Jerome (Katie) Wuestewald, all of Yankton; five grandchildren: Princeton, Brianna, Aria, Easton and Emersyn; a great grandson, Oaklynd; three siblings: Marcia (John) Bruce of Bellevue, NE, Pam (Carl) Sanders of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Kathy (Gordon) Sage of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Warnock.
