Arlyce Jean Newton, age 82 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Saturday evening, May 31, 2025 at the Arbor Care Center in Hartington.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca, Nebraska at a later date. Visitation with her body present will be on Saturday one hour prior to services. Cremation will occur after her funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and spouses: Mikaela Wolfe, Tom Wolfe, Johnathon Newton, Laura Newton, Aaron Newton, Sofi Newton, Julia Newton, Erica Langseth and Alex Langseth.

Arlyce Jean was born on April 23, 1943 in Maskell, Nebraska to Amos and Margaret (Draise) Gran. She graduated from Obert-Maskell High School in 1961. Arlyce married Charles Edward Newton on June 10, 1961 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Maskell. At that time, they were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Obert, NE and after the merger of the Obert and Maskell churches, she continued her church membership in the newly formed Faith Lutheran Church of Maskell. In 1972, she and Charles purchased the main farm “Home Place” east of Hartington. Upon them both retiring from the farm in 2012, they moved to Vermillion, SD and became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion. In 2022, Arlyce moved back to Hartington and resided in an apartment at Hartland Flats. In 2024 Arlyce became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. She had been a resident at Arbor Care since 1/26/2024.

Throughout her life, Arlyce was a member of the “692” Club and the Ladies Aide of Faith Lutheran Church. She made pies for the Country Line Café in Obert, NE. Arlyce loved making things with her hands, including painting, pottery, knitting, sewing, quilting, which quilting was her passion. She was definitely a typical farm wife, cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, canning, and gardening.

She is survived by her two sons, Rich (Karen) Newton of Hartington, Rodney (Janet) Newton of Laurel; grandchildren Mikaela (Tom) Wolfe of Grand Island (and their children Addison, Ella, Lydia, Ethan, Evan), Aaron (Sofi) Newton of Hartington (and their children Rowan Lennyn, & Haelyn), Erica (Alex) Langseth of Hartington (and their children Ryker & Charlee), Johnathon (Laura) Newton of Magnet (and their children Neveah & Soma, Julia Newton of Laurel (and her daughter Jurnee); two sisters Glendyne (Gary) of Texas, Sharolyn (Ken) of Washington.

Arlyce was preceded in death by her parents Amos & Margaret Gran; her husband Charles Newton on February 14, 2015 at the age of 74 years; her parents-in-law Edward & Louisa Newton; and a brother Milford Gran.
