Arlene Ruth Patefield, age 90 of Coleridge, Nebraska, died on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Laurel, Nebraska with Rev. Murry J. Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Prayer Service and Eastern Star Service at 5:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel is assisting with the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Arlene’s grandchildren Jason Patefield, Trent Patefield, Travis Patefield, Brandon Guern, Jose DeLaCruz, Hunter Wiese, and Sebastian DeLaCruz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arlene’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

Arlene was born on April 21, 1932 at Wayne, Nebraska to Walter and Ruth Ellen Marie (Andersen) Hansen. In 1939 Arlene’s family moved north of Allen, Nebraska. She attended country school and graduated from Allen High School. The school taught Normal Teachers Training and she graduated in 1949 and then taught country school north of Emerson, Nebraska for one year. Arlene married Milo Patefield on June 4, 1950 in Martinsburg, Nebraska. They moved into his parent’s home north of Logan Center Church and his parents moved into Coleridge. Arlene worked in the kitchen at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge from 1992 to 2000. In 2007 they sold the farm and moved into Laurel. She has been a resident of Park View Haven for 5 years.

Arlene is a member of the Logan Center United Methodist Church, served as treasurer for the Logan Center United Methodist Women, played piano at church and taught Sunday school. She formerly served as treasurer and secretary for the Cedar County Farm Bureau and was a 4H leader for 24 years. Arlene is a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 66 years and Past Matron. She loved to exhibit cooked goods, flowers and quilts at the fair where she received many top awards.

Arlene is survived by 4 children, Kathleen and Frank Plueger of Concord, NE; Robert and Dorothy Patefield of Belden, NE; Danny and Judy Patefield of Norfolk, NE; Donna Guern of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, a sister-in-law, Pat Hansen of Del Rapids, SD, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Milo, on November 19, 2009 at the age of 79, son-in-law, Paul Guern, a great grandson, Michael Joshua McWilliams, 3 brothers, Rodney and Helen Hansen, Maynard Hansen, Kenneth and Mary Hansen, 2 sisters, Bernita Meyer and Vivian (Leland) Lemke.
