Anne Louise (Marsh) Withrow, age 94, of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Brookings, South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Anne Louise Withrow was born September 13, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, to Gilbert and Gertrude (Collier) Marsh. She grew up in Laurel, Ohio, where she attended school and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1949. She went on to attend Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, graduating in 1953 with a degree in medical technology. She then completed a one-year internship at Monmouth Memorial Hospital in Long Branch, New Jersey.
On August 29, 1954, Anne married Marvin Withrow in Laurel, Ohio. Later that year, they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Anne worked as a medical technologist at McKennan Hospital for one year. They subsequently moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota, where she worked at Belle Fourche Hospital for a year before settling in Brookings. Anne returned to McKennan Hospital for two and a half years before accepting a position as a medical technologist at Brookings Medical Clinic and Hospital, where she dedicated nearly 40 years of service.
Throughout her years in Brookings, Anne was actively involved in numerous community activities, organizations, and fundraisers. She had a true passion for cooking and generously prepared meals for many community events, including the Brookings Wild Game Feed, where she even delighted guests with her preparations of bear, moose, elk, mountain lion, and of course, South Dakota pheasant. She was a member of Brookings First United Methodist Church, Altrusa International, Beta Sigma Phi, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Outside of her professional and community involvement, Anne found great joy in tending to her flower gardens, cooking, and baking. Some of her most treasured memories were made spending time with family at their cabin on Lake Poinsett, South Dakota, and at their condo in Barbados. Family was always at the center of Anne’s life. She took tremendous pride in supporting her children and grandchildren and loved being part of their many activities and accomplishments. She had a special gift for making everyone around her feel loved, welcomed, and important. Her infectious personality, quick wit, and unmistakable spunk brought joy to those fortunate enough to know her. Above all, Anne will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the memories she created, and the special way she made everyone feel. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 72 years, Marvin Withrow of Yankton; two sons, David (Marcia) Withrow of Yankton and Mark (Kathleen) Withrow of Johnson City, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Hannah (Trey), Landon (Haley), Alexander (Kylee), Cole (Haley), Kyle (Lily), Adam, and Joshua; three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Evelyn, and Koen; sister, Sandra Thorne of Albany, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Charles, Kathryn, Richard, and Darlene.
