Vernon "PeeWee" Yokum, age75, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with a lunch at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be in the Yankton City Cemetery in Yankton at 2:30 PM.

Vernon was born on August 9, 1932, to James and Jenny (Leatherman) Yokum in Niobrara, Nebraska. He worked on Floyd and Delmar Nelson's farm for around 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and Adelle's pies. His prize possession was any car he owned. He was a very generous man and was well thought of by everyone he knew.

Survivors include his brother, Howard Yokum of Valentine, Nebraska; sister, Marie Ferral of Sacramento, California; and nephew, Bill (Kathy) Sangster of Omaha, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
