Edward "Ed"Wright, age 98, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Sanford Health Care Center in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home with Reverend Rodney Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post 791. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the funeral home.
Edward "Ed" Wright was born, March 1, 1919, in Yankton, South Dakota to George and Stella (Foland) Wright. He grew up in Yankton and after graduating from high school spent some time riding in the rodeo. He enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. During World War II he worked at the Ammo Depot in Igloo, South Dakota. He moved back to Yankton and became an apprentice plumber for Vinatieri Plumbing in Yankton, where he worked until his retirement. He married Anita Joyce Miller on April 24, 1969 in Yankton and in 2014 Ed became a resident of Sanford Health in Vermillion. Ed loved bowling and walking and enjoyed watching the Discovery Bridge construction.
Survivors include his son, Andy Wright of Lemoore, California; daughter, Joyce Wiebenga of Yankton, South Dakota; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and close friends, Sandra Gatica and Judy Zongra.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita on May 18, 1997; two brothers: George and Luther; and four sisters: Hazel, Alice, Ethel and Margaret.
