Thelma E. Van Epps, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Russell Buchanan, Nick Huber, Trevor Huber, Doug King, and Xavier Garinsforth.
Thelma E. Van Epps was born October 10, 1927, in Yankton, South Dakota to Herbert and Ethel (Dunham) Huber. She grew up on a farm near Mission Hill, South Dakota and attended school in Mission Hill. She married Donald E. Van Epps on September 12, 1955, in Yankton. Thelma and Donald lived in Yankton and had one daughter, Debra. Thelma worked at Newberry's and JC Penny's for a while until she got a job at Gurney Seed and Nursery in Yankton. She enjoyed working at Gurney's for several years. She later worked for Dale Electronics in Yankton.
Thelma was a wonderful mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, doing bookwork, shopping and playing cards. She will be missed.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Yankton; daughter, Debra Van Epps of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Bernal Huber of Mission Hill, South Dakota; four sisters-in-law: Jean Wildermuth of Yankton; Joyce Boeckman of Yankton; Joanne Thomas of Berkeley, California; and Chris Van Epps of Rockford, Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd Huber and sister, Dureen Buchanan.
