Bernice D. Stratman, age 92 of Hartington, NE, died on Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. John Pietramale officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Fordyce, NE.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robert, Patrick, Christopher, Joshua, and Shane Stratman, Matthew Coughlin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bernice's granddaughters, Stacie Dickerson, Tara Johnson, Lezlie John, and Kaela Stratman.

Bernice Dorothy Stratman was born on February 15, 1916 to Justus and Sophia (Mesenbrink) Hennings in Bloomfield, NE. She moved to a farm west of Crofton at the age of 1 year. She attended New Home School and graduated from the 8th grade. She worked for several different families in Yankton until she married Ignatius August Stratman on January 14, 1941 in Fordyce, NE. They lived by Fordyce on Highway 81 until 1955 when they moved east of Hartington. She and Ike retired and moved into Hartington in 1982. Ike died on February 18, 2003 at the age of 87 years.

Bernice is survived by three children and their spouses, Roger and Donna Stratman of San Diego, CA, Arlan and Lorraine Stratman of Omaha, NE, Renee and Mike Coughlin of Kearney, NE; 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren, one sister, Evelyn McShannon of Crofton, NE.

Preceding Bernice in death were her parents, husband, Ike, one son, Valgene Stratman; five brothers, Harvey, Elmer, Ralph, Hugo, and Melvin Hennings; one infant sister, Hulda; one step-great granddaughter, Hope and one step great grandson, James.
