Linda M. Sawatzke, age 88 of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church, from 2-5:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton.
Pallbearers will be Ben Sawatzke, Aaron Knapp, Adam Sailer, Kody Schmidt, Kamden Cihlar, and Dean Gobel.
Honorary pallbearers will be April Knapp, Isabel Knapp, Meagan Sailer, Rylen Sawatzke, Baileigh Sailer, Rex Sailer, and Ryan Friend.
Linda was born in Crofton on February 18, 1925 to Kurt and Helen (Naber) Seipelt. She grew up in Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School in 1943. She then went to the National Business Training College in Omaha. She worked at the hospital in Omaha prior to her marriage to Billie Sawatzke on August 6, 1946 in Omaha, NE. After their marriage they moved to Crofton where they owned and operated Peoples Department Store. The Store was sold in 1988 when she and Billie retired.
Linda was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the church choir, Crofton American Legion Auxiliary and the Yankton VFW Auxiliary. Linda enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping, and being with her family.
She is survived by her husband Billie of Crofton; son Kim and his wife Mary Sawatzke of Crofton; four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Grandchildren are Ben Sawatzke and daughter Rylen of San Antonio, TX; April and Aaron Knapp and children Kody, Kamden, and Isabel of Crofton, NE; Ryan Friend stationed in Osan, Korea; Meagan and Adam Sailer and children Baileigh and Rex of Yankton, SD.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law Mary Katherine Sawatzke; and sister Frances Seipelt.
