Catherine R. ReifenrathCatherine R. Reifenrath, age 87 of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Constance, NE. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will continue on Monday morning one hour prior to services at Church.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Troy Joachimsen, Chris Boswell, Adam Hintz, Aaron Severns, Thomas Grady, Cliff Severns, and Daniel Grady. Honorary pallbearers will be Catherine's grandchildren.
Catherine Rita Reifenrath was born on August 14, 1920 in Lindsay, NE to Henry and Anne (Albrecht) Keimig. She was baptized in the Holy Family Church in Lindsay, NE. Catherine received her elementary education in Lindsay, NE. At the age of sixteen, she joined her sister Ann in Omaha and worked as a Nanny and also a clerk at the Union Pacific Station. She met her future husband, Christopher Joseph Grady, a dental student at Creighton University in 1942. He worked for the Dental Corps of the U.S. Air Force and was in Ft. Leavenworth, KS. and the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Captain Grady returned after 1 ½ years to marry Catherine Keimig in October 1944 in Lindsay, NE. Chris and Catherine lived in Kearney, where daughter Linda was born. They moved to Newman Grove where Chris had a dental practice. While there, children, Nancy, Steve and David were born. In 1952 Catherine and Chris moved to Bloomfield, NE where two daughters, Mary and Julie were born. Due to health problems, Dr. Grady and Kay moved to Clarksville, Arkansas. On February 5, 1975 he suffered a heart attack and died in Little Rock, AR. He was buried in Constance, NE. In 1975, she returned to Hartington, NE. where she lived and worked at the Globe Clothing Store until she met Lawrence Reifenrath.
Catherine then married Lawrence Reifenrath on June 3, 1977, in Constance, NE. They farmed near Constance until 1993, when they retired and moved to Crofton.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton; the Altar Society, she loved to play golf, sew, do crafts and play cards, especially Bridge. She loved her family and all the gatherings. She enjoyed taking family pictures for her photo albums.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Crofton; six children and spouses, Linda and Jim Joachimsen of Crofton, NE, Nancy and Don Boswell of Herman, NE, Steve and Debbie Grady of Omaha, NE, David and Holly Grady of Denver, CO, Mary and John Hintz of Lincoln, NE, Julie and Mark Severns of Cabot, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three sisters, Sr. Jo LaVerne Keimig of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Ann Ayers of Apple Valley, CA, Rita Hopkins of Meadowlake TX. Brothers Tony Keimig of Stronghurst, IL, Justinian and Liz Keimig of Bettendorf, IA.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Christopher Grady, one grandson, Steven Allen Grady.
