Lois V. Opfer, age 86 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with Rev. Bob Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the Hartington City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kerri Siedell, Tonya Stockwell, Stacy Knutson, and Michaila Gansebom, Koni Opfer and Tina Opfer.

Pallbearers will be Nick Opfer, Tory Opfer, Heath Opfer, Dan Siedell, Todd Knutson, Michael Stockwell and Ethan Gansebom.

Lois was born on January 30, 1923 at Wynot, NE to Otto and Anna (Anderson) Bottolfson. She grew up in Wynot and graduated from Wynot High School in 1941. She married Earl David Opfer on May 27, 1941 at Hartington. After their marriage they lived in the Hartington area. Lois worked at the Cedars Nursing Home in Hartington from 1968-1969. Shortly after Earl's death on January 12, 1974, Lois moved into Hartington. She began working at Ray's Super Saver and continued at Food Town until 1996.

Lois was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the ELCW and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Merry Menders, the Hartington VFW Auxiliary Post 5283, and the Solitaires. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and raising flowers. She had a great sense of humor and loved being with her children and grandchildren.

Lois is survived by 2 children and their spouses, David and Lorie Opfer of Hartington; Earleen and Tim Gansebom of Norfolk; a daughter in law and her husband, Kathy and Ray Knutson of Hartington; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Anita Wieseler of Sioux City, Iowa and Madeline and Vern Newton of Napa, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl at the age of 52, a son Daniel Opfer, an infant grandson, Joshua Gansebom, 5 sisters, Wilma Nielsen, Cleon Thompson, Maryln Williams, Joan Solline and Lenora Hurley, 6 brothers, Art, Harold, Otto, Orville and infants Herman and Carl Bottolfson.

I was so sorry to hear of Lois's passing. She ws a sister to my great aunt Cleon Thompson. She had such a bubblly personality. I am sure she will be missed.

Earleen--I was so sorry to read about your mother's passing. But looking at the video, I can see that she had a long and blessed life, and I'm sure you're very grateful for that. It brought back a lot of memories for me--though our lives' paths didn't cross for very long, there were familiar faces and places! I see that you and Tim have beautiful children--wasn't difficult to see which one was the "little Earleen" and which one was "Tim's boy"! Please accept our deepest sympathies, Marty and Keith
