Gladys Nelson, age 94, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Centerville Care and Rehab Center in Centerville, South Dakota.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Westerville, South Dakota with Intern Megan Hays officiating from Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton.
Gladys Nelson was born September 6, 1920 in Volin, South Dakota, to John and Bertha (Kjonegaard) Oursland. She grew up in Volin and graduated from Volin High School. She then attended Business College for two years. She married John Nelson on August 21, 1941 in the family home in Volin. After their marriage they traveled following John's fiddling and carpentry career. They later moved to Yankton, where she took great pride in taking care of her home and raising her daughter, Julie.
Gladys enjoyed playing BINGO and reading about history. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and greatly enjoyed attending their Saturday evening services. Her greatest joy in her life was her daughter, Julie.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; beloved daughter and best friend, Julie; five brothers and one sister.
