Annie was born on September 5, 1933 to Onesimo and Beatrice (Burrell) Gutierrez of Deming, New Mexico. Annie was one of ten children and was raised and worked on a farm. Annie married Harlan Nelsen on June 6, 1966 and to this union, they raised four children. While Harlan was in the service, Annie worked as a waitress and hostess at many Air Force Bases inside the United States and overseas. After retirement from the service, the family moved back to Yankton where she worked as a hostess at The Library Restaurant and the Paddle Wheel restaurant until she retired. In her retirement, she continued being a home-maker for her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking but especially the time she spent with her family.
Annie will be most remembered by her kindness, her willingness to listen, going on Sunday afternoon drives, and her pride in her family. She enjoyed seeing her friends on her morning trips to buy groceries and checking out what was going on in the neighborhood.
She is survived by her four children: Mike Lucero of Columbia, SC, Elizabeth (Chris) Rodriguez of Sacramento, CA, Brian (Melissa) Nelsen of Des Moines, IA, and Chris (Cindy) Nelsen of Mission Hill, SD; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; brother, Junior; two sisters, Stella and Yolanda; and several nieces and nephews.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan of 39 years; and six brothers and sisters.
