Arlis F. Konken 62 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota

A memorial service will be on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bob Bryan officiating. Burial of her ashes will be at the Crofton City Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation for Arlis. The family will be present at the church on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren, Kenneth Beltz, April Beltz, Johnathen Konken, Alex Konken, Zachery Konken, Carson Konken and Keagan Konken.

Arlis Fay Mifflin was born April 27, 1947, to John and and Edna (Johnson) Mifflin in rural Bloomfield, Nebraska. She lived on a farm north of Bloomfield and attended Knox County rural school. She later attended Bloomfield High School until 1963 and on April 29, 1965, she married Vernon Konken in Yankton, South Dakota. They resided on a farm outside Coleridge for awhile until moving to Neligh in 1969. In Neligh, Arlis cooked & served meals in the Neligh High School cafeteria, sold Avon, supervised paper carriers for Norfolk Daily News, escorted the movement of mobile homes and babysat frequently in her home. Upon moving to Hartington in 1981, Arlis cooked & served meals in the Senior Citizens Center, was a Nurses Aide at the Hartington Nursing Home and continued babysitting numerous children in her home. Arlis spent many years sewing Barbie Doll clothes and creating a wide variety of crafts, which she and Vernon distributed at craft shows throughout Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.

Arlis had many interests and hobbies through the years. She loved baking, sewing, raising flowers and being surrounded by the love of her numerous babysitting kids. She was an extremely positive, outgoing and thoughtful woman who never tired in her care and generosity for others. Arlis was known for her strict work ethic and firm parenting, but also for her smiles and laughter. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington.

Those who will cherish her memory are her husband of 44 years, Vernon Konken of Hartington; one daughter, Lisa and husband, Brian Beltz of Norfolk; three sons, Kevin Konken of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Curtis Konken and wife, Jeanette, of Cedar Creek, Texas, and Korey Konken and wife, Rachel, of Trenton, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren; her sister, Helen Mifflin of Bloomfield; her brother, Art Mifflin and friend, Louise, of Oakridge, Georgia;

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Arlene; and an infant brother, Rodney.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift in Arlis' name to Trinity Lutheran Church.
