Greg Koepsell, age 60, of Mission Hill, South Dakota, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, surrounded by his wife and daughter, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, January 31, 2014, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend John Rutten officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Greg was born February 27, 1953 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Melvin and Ardis (Stoen) Koepsell. He grew up in Canova, South Dakota and graduated from Canova High School, where he was especially proud of his 1968 State Teener Baseball Championship and all-state honors in football, track and basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Lugene "Lu" Zens, on September 8, 1973 in Epiphany. Together they moved to Yankton and Greg worked at Wilson Trailer before returning to Canova to farm and start a family. In 1984, Greg and his family returned to the Yankton area, and they settled in Mission Hill, South Dakota. Throughout the years Greg worked for Farmers Elevator, Utica Grain and Feed, Den Besten as a regional sales manager, owner of the Main Street Bar & Grill, Yankton Metals, and Weiman Construction.
Greg enjoyed fishing, especially in northern Minnesota, boating on the Missouri River, hunting, watching golf, catching up with his friends, and taking drives with his beloved chocolate lab, Hershey. Red Balloons!!!
Survivors include his wife, Lugene "Lu" Koepsell of Mission Hill; three children: Scott Koepsell (Rob Bianchini) of Omaha, Nebraska; Mike (Michelle) Koepsell of Mission Hill; and Laura Koepsell of Mission Hill; two grandchildren: Breanna Pearson and Mason Koepsell; brother, Brad Koepsell of Sioux Falls; two brothers-in-law: Harley (Ronda) Zens of Canova and Warren (Kathy) Zens of Mitchell, South Dakota; honorary son Jared (Jennifer and Emma) Archambeau of Piedmont, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ardis; and in-laws, Clement and Elsie Zens.

Lu and family, I was so sorry to see of Greg's passing. You all are in my thoughts and prayers, and I will always remember Greg for that smile he always shared.
Lugene & family: I was shocked to learn of my cousin Greg's passing this morning when I viewed the online version of the Argus Leader. The last time I saw Greg was at my brother's funeral service in Sioux Falls. I will miss Greg very much. Please accept our most sincere expression of sympathy during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine your pain. You can be sure God feels your pain. Isaiah 25:8 tells us: "He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." Jesus' promise of the resurrection is comforting as well (John 5:28,29). I hope these verses bring you some comfort as you endure.
