Dennis Q. "Whitey" Jensen

Dennis Q. "Whitey" Jensen, age 67, of Yankton, South Dakota died Monday, May 19, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM, on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Lund officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM.

Pallbearers are Gary Boom, Wayne Jensen, Leo Lukes Jr., Fred Pick, Rick Stone and Raymond Whating Jr. Honorary pallbearers are officers of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Dennis was born on May 6, 1941 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to James P. and Alma (Quarg) Jensen. He graduated from Yankton High School and was active in many sports including basketball, football and track. After school, Dennis enlisted in the United States Army. He first worked at Montgomery Ward's and then drove the mail truck for Vanderhule's. Then Dennis began his career in law enforcement. He worked for the Yankton Police Department for a few years and the South Dakota Highway Patrol for over 20 years retiring as a sergeant. On September 10, 1986, Dennis married Alfreda Pesicka. She passed away on November 14, 2003. Dennis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. He loved to go biking and fishing. He enjoyed cooking and had a passion for cars.

Dennis is survived by his loving companion, Deanna Houseman of Yankton; three sisters, Bonnie Whating of Yankton, Cleo Lukes of Sioux Falls and Jacqueline (Donald) Olson of Yankton; two brothers, Gene Jensen of Yankton and David Jensen of Blackhawk, SD; three step-sons, Peter (Karen) Kallas of Dallas, Tim (Stephanie) Kallas of Kansas City and Jim (Char) Kallas of Belle Fourche, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alfreda Jensen; and three brothers, Keith, Jim and Lester Jensen.
