Mildred Amelia Janssen was born on January 25, 1911 near Laurel, Nebraska to Charles L. and Florence Matilda (Kunnhenn) Hubbard. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1930. Mildred married Arnold Theodor Janssen on September 26, 1933 in Coleridge, NE. They farmed near Laurel and Coleridge and moved into Coleridge in 1958. Mildred worked as a nurse's aide at the Coleridge Nursing Home and retired when the nursing home moved to its present location.
Mildred belonged to the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active with the Ladies Group. She volunteered to help with bingo at Park View Haven Nursing Home and sewed hundreds of quilts and tops which were donated to World Relief. She loved to sew quilts and every member of her extended family received at least one of her special quilts. Mildred loved to play cards and work word finds. When she could no longer sew with her treadle machine, she took over cutting quilt pieces for her niece, Dolores Meier.
Mildred is survived by her son Stan and his wife JoAnn Janssen of Lincoln, NE; daughter-in-law Ann Janssen of Shorewood, IL; sister Gladys Fleener of Coleridge, NE; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; 2 nieces, Dolores Meier of Coleridge, NE, and Carole Nordby; one nephew Gene Kelly of Denver, CO.
