James W. Hochstein age 68 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at church, from 4-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services. James William Hochstein was born on January 1, 1946 in Yankton, SD to Emery A. and Lorraine V. (Sudbeck) Hochstein. He attended elementary school in Bow Valley and then graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington in 1964. Jim married Sue Ann Wolfe on February 7, 1976 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Jim worked construction for his uncle Elmer Hochstein prior to becoming a partner of Plumbing & Electric with brother Ken Hochstein and Roger Wortmann. He operated an excavator and other heavy equipment for many years at P & E. Jim retired in 2008 at age 62 years. After he retired, Jim spent the past several years helping his brother Gayle at Hartington Concrete and also helped Marsh Farms during harvest season. Jim's passion was working hard and playing cards.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus where he was past Grand Knight. Jim was a former Holy Trinity School Board member, National Guard and Am Vets member, and part of the Stop-N-Go Coffee Club.
Jim is survived by his wife Sue of Hartington; six children and their spouses Rachel Hochstein of Hartington, Sam and Carrie Hochstein of Hartington, Ann and Kenny Hill of Sioux Falls, SD, Jesse and Gina Hochstein of Hartington, Jenny and Glen Thoene of Hartington, Darin Hochstein and FiancÚ Molly Dickes of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; three brothers and spouses Ken and Carol Hochstein of Hartington, Gayle and Barb Hochstein of Hartington, Michael "Mick" and Nancy Hochstein of Hartington; two sisters and spouses Carolyn and Jerry Arkfeld of Omaha, NE, Kristi and Steve Chonis of Kansas City, MO; many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Lorraine Hochstein and sister Mary Threse Hochstein.
