Daniel Hochstein

Daniel Anthony Hochstein, age 56 of Omaha, NE and formerly of Wynot, NE died on Thursday, June 19 at his home in Omaha from an apparent heart attack.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot, NE with the Rev. Michael Keating officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wynot.

Visitation will be on Sunday, at the church in Wynot, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Wintz Funeral Home of Hartington is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Shawn and Casey Koch, Liam Villanueva, David Sudbeck, Laverle Hochstein, Jean Hochstein, Gary Hochstein, Don Feilmeier, and Mike Villanueva.

Daniel Anthony Hochstein was born August 24, 1951 to Merlin and Dolores Ann (Sudbeck) Hochstein. He grew up in the Bow Valley, NE area and went to grade school at SS. Peter and Paul Elementary School and graduated from Mount Michael High School in Elkhorn, NE. He joined the Navy and was involved in the nuclear engineering submarine program. He was in Navy for 8 years and received a degree in Nuclear Engineering. He then received a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and later received a master's degree. He worked at the OPPD Fort Calhoun Power Plant as a nuclear operator in the control room. He retired in August 2007 after 25 years of employment at the Fort Calhoun Power Plant. He was a member of the Navy Reserves for 17 years. In his free time he enjoyed biking, sailing, and reading.

He is survived by his parents, Merlin and Dolores Hochstein; a brother Pete, sisters Jill Koch and Mary Lee (Mike) Villanueva, and nephews, Shawn and Casey Koch and Liam Villanueva; and a special friend Pam.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Peter and Ida Hochstein and Arthur and Rose Sudbeck.
