Hazel E. Hedelson

Hazel E. Hedelson, age 95, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, on Monday, May 19, 2008, at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Jan Voelzke officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Sunday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM.

Pallbearers are Richard Schaefer Jr., Michael Schaefer, Kyle Schaefer, Cole Schaefer, John Hansen, and Aaron Hansen. Honorary pallbearers are all of Hazel's great grandchildren.

Hazel was born December 3, 1912, to George and Stella (Foland) Wright in Yankton, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Yankton. She married Earl Hedelson in 1936. She started a daycare center out of her home which she continued for over 50 years. She was active in the Salvation Army and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed children and especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her three children, Karen (Richard) Schaefer of Yankton, Bev. Wynn of Freeman, South Dakota, and Betty (Earl) Knudson of Vermillion, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother, Ed Wright of Yankton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; three sisters, Margaret, Ethel, and Alice; two brothers, Luther and George; son, Ray; and grandson, Robert Joe Schaefer.
