Dorothy "Dort" (Remington) Felts, age 81, of Yankton, South Dakota, went to be with Jesus, Saturday night, January 16, 2010, at her son's home with all her family present, just two days before her 82nd birthday.

Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation with the family present is Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Dorothy was born January 18, 1928, to Frank and Louise (Jensen) Remington on the farm north of Hartington, Nebraska. She was the youngest of nine children. Her mother, unfortunately, died shortly after her birth. When Dorothy was two years old, her father married Nellie Rosenberger who became "Mom" to all the children, and "Grandma" to scores of grandchildren. Frank and Nellie lived on the farm until 1945 when they moved to Yankton and settled in East Yankton. In 1945, Dorothy had a son, Larry Dean Remington in Sioux City, Iowa. She later brought Dean home to East Yankton where he was raised and it wasn't long before Dorothy became known as the finest, hardest working barmaid in town. Over the years, she worked at the Blue Fox, Club Dakota, Bob's Liquor, Mint, Robbie's, and the Walnut, until retiring at age 65.
She enjoyed gardening, gathering with her relatives, painting dishtowels, working word search puzzles, and visiting with all her friends.
She is survived by her son, Larry Dean (LaDawn) Remington of Yankton; grandson, Chad (Amy) Remington of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; granddaughter, Amy (Todd) Haberman of South Yankton, South Dakota; sister Peggy (Ernest) List of Yankton; sister-in-law, Vera Remington of Yankton; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends who were like extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank; mother, Louise; step-mother, Nellie; three brothers and their spouses, Charles (Maxine) Remington, Clarence (Irma) Remington, and Richard Remington; four sisters and their spouses, Minnie (Leonard) Layne, Pearl (Roy) Clark, Loretta Kenney, and Millie (Victor) Schmidt; and special friend, Leo Bockholt.

Messages will be reviewed and posted within 1 business day.
