Cecil was born December 17, 1923 near Scotland, South Dakota to Pete and Emily (Kahle) Ellinger. He grew up on a farm south of Scotland and graduated from Scotland High School in 1941. On May 14, 1944, Cecil married Eldora Schafer at St. Petersburg Congregational Church in rural Lesterville, South Dakota. After their marriage, they lived and farmed south of Scotland. In addition to farming, Cecil also enjoyed buying and selling cattle. In 1972, he became an independent insurance agent and broker. Cecil enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan of Scotland High School. His faith was the central part of his life and he was very active in his church. He was also an active member of the Gideons and participated in the visitation program at Mike Durfee State Prison. Cecil was an honest, hardworking, family oriented man who loved to visit with others. He never knew a stranger; they were just a friend he hadn't met yet.
Cecil is survived by six children: Steve Ellinger of Norwood, MO, Peg (Matt) Mottice of Mineral City, OH, Ted (Diane) Ellinger of Freeman, Pat (Charles) Asche of Sioux Falls, Greg (Roxanne) Ellinger of Lesterville, and Deb Ellinger of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry (Donna) Schafer of Vermillion, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Eldora Ellinger; his parents; daughter-in-law, Wanda Ellinger; sister, Fern (Morris) Gran; and a sister-in-law, LouEtta (Edward) Lipkie.

We were so surprised to hear of Cecil's passing!!! How nice that your parents are reunited so quickly after your Mom's passing. I'm subbing at school all week so might not make the funeral. I'll see what I can work out.

We have many fond memories of our visits with Uncle Cecil and Aunt Eldora on farm. Cecil was always kind to show us around the ranch or help pick up trees from Gurney's for LouEtta's place. We also enjoyed learning about the current prices of cattle and corn and the happenings around Scotland. We will miss hearing the stories from this great generation. Love and Prayers to Uncle Cecil and the whole Ellinger Family.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Cecil. I still remember what a great guy he was when I lived in Scotland. And when they lived on the farm they would always wave when I drove by. Very nice people. Prayers to all.

Deb and family,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. Cherish your memories, at a time like this they will become treasures. Prayers to all of you.
It was about 6-7 weeks ago and we celebrated your mother being promoted to Glory. None of us thought your dad's passing would be this soon. I'm so thankful I got to spend several minutes visiting with him at your mom's celebration. Your parents were awesome --- they are proud of you as much as you are proud of them.
Knowing the creator of the universe and knowing we will spend eternity with HIM is something everyone longs for but so many will not receive because they have rejected Jesus Christ. Your parents were some of the strongest Christian folks I've ever met. May their love for you always be felt and may the love of Jesus bring you peace in all the days of your life. We love you so much and are praying the Holy Spirit will sustain and meet all your needs.

Steve, deepest Sympathy to you and your family.

Having just read of Cecil's passing I want to say a word of thanks for a man who was always an encouragement to me. I still remember stacking hay with him on the Gran farm when I was a high school kid and enjoying his enthusiasm for life.
