Elden C. "Dusty" Dusterhoft

Elden C. "Dusty" Dusterhoft, age 80, of Yankton, South Dakota died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.

Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 7, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton with the Reverend James Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery in Aten, Nebraska with military honors by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post. No. 791 of Yankton. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Pallbearers are Bill Smith, Larry Janssen, Chuck Gukeisen, Arthur Tuttle, Jim Froehlich, and Matt Sprakel. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Engelhaupt and Kenneth Voss.

Elden was born October 14, 1927 in Yankton, South Dakota to Walter and Mabel (McCullough) Dusterhoft. He grew up and attended school in Crofton, Nebraska. After school, he farmed with his family north of Crofton. Elden was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge, he continued farming in the Bloomfield area. On October 2, 1965, Elden married Carol Dirks in Coleridge, NE. He drove truck for Winfred Geiselman for 10 years and then drove for Vulcraft, a division of Nucor Steel in Norfolk, for 25 years until his retirement. In February of 1999, he suffered a stroke, but continued to live life to the fullest. He did all the activities he enjoyed before with the help of his Jazzy, his power wheelchair. Elden was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed traveling and going to tractor pulls and truck shows. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and his flowers. He liked to watch hockey and football and loved visiting with his friends.

Elden is survived by his wife, Carol Dusterhoft of Yankton; son, Richard Dusterhoft of Yankton; daughter, Suzanne Dusterhoft of Wayne, NE; and two sisters, Lois (Hovey) Dartford of Glendale, California and Erma Dusterhoft of Yankton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lyle Dusterhoft.
