Bernice was born on Tuesday, June 24, 1919 to Frank H. and Anna (Steffen) Buschelman on a farm 1 mile west of Fordyce. She was raised on this farm and attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Fordyce and completed the 10th grade at the Fordyce High School. She did domestic work for the pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot, Nebraska and was also the director and organist for the parish choir from 1939 to 1949. She then went to the Grand Island Business College where she took a clerk and stenography course graduating in 1950. She also took a Civil Service test and moved to Washington, DC and worked for the Corps of Engineers for 27 years, retiring on January 9, 1980. She returned to Fordyce and lived with her sister, Viola Schulte. She had been a resident of the Golden Living Center since January 20, 2015.
Bernice was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Guild. Getting a good picture of Bernice was always difficult as she hated having her picture taken. She liked to visit with her friends and especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Bernice is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Barnes of Yankton, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Buschelman of Hartington and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings and their spouses, Harold and Hilda Buschelman, Siegfried Buschelman, Jerome and Bernice Buschleman, Viola and Alphonse Schulte, Annette and George Fillian and Lucille and Les Aspen.
Messages will be reviewed and posted within 1 business day.
I extend my deepest sympathy on the loss of Bernice. She was a great lady, and my prayers and support are with all of you.
