Hermenia E. Bogner

Hermenia Elizabeth Bogner, of Crofton, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Blair Community Hospital in Blair, NE at the age of 97 years and 11months.

Mass of Christian Burial will on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10:00am at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service and Video Tribute at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Church.

Pallbearers will be Dan McDonald, Chris Munoz, Alex Mueller, Dave Brennan, Pete Pirsch, and Tony Ruma. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Bogner and Geoff Bogner.

Hermenia was born August 24, 1910, in Earling, Iowa, and was the fifth child of ten born to George and Caroline (Block) Kohles. Hermenia spent her childhood in Earling, Iowa, and at age 18, moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and completed 2 years at Briar Cliff College where she studied piano and voice. Hermenia was an accomplished pianist and beautiful vocalist. She taught school several years in Iowa before her marriage to Ferd S. Bogner on September 27, 1937, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. They resided in Crofton, Nebraska, where they were members of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 1997. Ferd died on August 6, 1998 at the age of 88. Hermenia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with 8 children, 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She lived an exceptional life full of caring and compassion for her family and friends.

Hermenia spent many active years pursuing her love of the arts in poetry, writing, painting, and music. Spending most of her life in Crofton, Nebraska, she became affectionately known as the "Hat Lady" for her beautiful hats, which she wore while providing piano music to diners at the Argo Hotel. Hermenia created a large collection of poems and writings and produced and exhibited a large number of paintings. She was a very spiritual woman whose faith was very important to her. Hermenia will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the good fortune to know her

Hermenia is survived by seven children and their spouses; Sandra McDonald of Crofton, Paul Bogner of Purcell, OK, Jerry Bogner of Spokane, WA, Marie and Chuck Panipinto of Portland, OR, Carolyn and Dean Mueller of Omaha, Diane Pravecek of Lawrence, KS, Joan and Mike Munoz of Newton, Iowa, two sisters; Ernestine Minahan of Neola, Iowa, Lucille and Pat Swift of Clive, Iowa, 2 sisters-in-law Mary Ann Kohles of Rosemont, CA, Ramona Bogner of Scottsdale, AZ, and a brother-in-law, Norbert Bogner of Crofton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ferd S. Bogner, and son Dan Bogner, and two great grandsons, Mickey McDonald and Nathan Brennan, three sisters, and four brothers.
