Dennis was born May 23, 1920 on the family farm just outside Crofton, Nebraska to Bruno and Olga (Sinkula) Bogner. He attended elementary school at St. Rose Catholic School and completed high school at Crofton Public School, graduating with the class of 1937. Dennis continued his education with a correspondence course in accounting, and for a time was an insurance agent in Crofton. Dennis took a job as the office manager at the Burbach Elevator, also in Crofton, working for then-senator, Jules Burbach. On June 15, 1963, he married Darlene Bennorth of Elgin, Illinois. In the mid 70s, he took over Kuehn's Men's Clothing Store in Crofton, and renamed it D&D Clothing, for Dennis and Darlene, of course. He retired from the store in the late 1980s, but kept many caps and hats as mementos, as Dennis never left the house without one or the other.

Over the years, Dennis was treasurer or accountant of many community organizations, including the Crofton Library, Crofton Township, Crofton Park Board, and the Crofton Senior Citizens' Center, and was often seen taking cash to the bank in a shoe box, tackle box, or zippered envelope. He also served many years on the Crofton Public School board, serving many as its president, in charge of handing out diplomas to graduates in May. Many of Crofton's trees came to life under his participation n the Tree City USA board. Dennis was also heavily involved in Crofton baseball, serving as the ballpark announcer for many years, and also helped to organize the reunion of many players during the Crofton Centennial celebration in 1992. He was responsible for getting Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer, Bob Gibson, to play in Crofton for a summer while Gibson was a college student. Dennis was also a die-hard Husker football fan.

At home, Dennis had a great love for puttering in the garden and completing numerous fix-up projects, and loved to play catch with his daughters, Sharon and Barb.

Dennis was also a faithful congregant of the St. Rose of Lima Church in Crofton, and was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Dennis is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Sharon and Todd Anderson of New Hope, Minnesota, and Barbara and Eric Lee in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as two granddaughters, Erin and Keili Anderson in New Hope, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Darlene, who died on March 19, 2008, at the age of 75, and sisters, Dorothy Roddewig and Marcella Haberer.

Sharon, Barb and families: I am so sorry for the loss of your father. He was an incredible man who always greeted me with a smile. He was such a community man who loved our town dearly. May he rest in peace with your mother. May fond memories help you through this time of sorrow. God Bless you all.

Sharon & Barb,

Crofton has lost an institution! Your Dad was always such a neat neat guy. Its funny the things we remember. Growing up, when I saw your Dad on my way to or from school he always had a very enthusiastic "HELLO DAVID." Never Hi. Never, hey. Always Hello, and always very enthusiastic.

During this sad time there will certainly be a lot of tears. I hope you will also smile and laugh a little as you remember your Dad & Mom.

June & I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

David Janssen

Dennis was a wonderful man and a great friend and support to my Grandpa and Grandma, Ferd and Hermenia Bogner. Dennis did so much for the town and the people of Crofton. He was an important part of the community, an inspiration in how you can make a difference right where you live. Dennis definitely "bloomed where he was planted".

Barb, Sharon and families,

My heart is breaking to learn of the passing of your father, Dennis. He was an amazing man and I felt it an honor to call him a friend. Dennis, Darlene and I shared a lot of good laughs while working together at the Welcome Center. He was a very knowledgeable man and loved sharing all of his trivia with me... I learned a lot from him. One of my best memories of Dennis was at my son's baby shower in 2003. Your mother was invited to the shower, so Dennis drove her to Yankton. He thought he should have been invited and didn't want to miss out on the excitement... so, he decided he would join the women at the baby shower and had a wonderful time!! He was just adorable in so many ways. He will be greatly missed. What a wonderful man.

Sincerely, Shana

Barb, Sharon & Families,

Sorry to hear of your Father's passing. He was a very good resident of Crofton who never missed on a chance to say "Hello" to anyone. I feel privileged that I was able to get to know him in many functions: Classmates Parent, Manager at Elevator, Owner of Clothing Store, Promoter of Small NE Towns, etc....

You and your family are in my Prayers.

Joe Guenther
