Richard J. Boehmer, age 69 of Newcastle, Nebraska, died on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Faith Regional Health Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle with Rev. Mark Beran officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle with the Newcastle American Legion Post 62 providing military services. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the church with a vigil service and video tribute at 7:00 pm. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Dan Arens, Ken Mueller, Terry Woockman, Tony Maibaum, Pat Riesberg, John Halsted and Luke Trenhaile.

Richard was born on November 24, 1940 at St. Helena, Nebraska to Alfred and Lucille (Riibe) Boehmer. He grew up on a farm in the St. Helena area and attended country school and then attended the Blue Cloud Abbey in Northeast South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army from February 28, 1963 to March 13, 1964. He married Sharon Wiedenfeld on April 1, 1967 in Newcastle and they made their home in Yankton from 1968 to 1972. Richard attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, Iowa where he earned his GED and learned the trade of a meat cutter. He worked as a meat cutter in Sioux City for numerous years and eventually began working at the Sioux City Foundry. Due to health issues, Richard was forced to retire early. He lived in Newcastle from 1972 until moving to the Pierce Manor in Pierce, Nebraska on July 29, 1997.

Richard was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle and the Newcastle American Legion Post 62. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and archer. He loved his family and dedicated his life to God and the church.

Richard is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, Phylis and Jason Trenhaile of Wayne; Angie and Bryan Tucker of Yuma, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, Luke, Seth, Reed and Jenna Trenhaile, Gabrielle, Anastasia, Nathaniel and Zachariah Tucker, 3 brothers, Randy Boehmer of Ashfork, Arizona; Larry and Judy Boehmer of Woodstock, Georgia; Michael Boehmer of Wellington, Colorado; 3 sisters, Donna Maibaum of Crofton; Sharon and Jack Halsted of Utica, South Dakota; and Arlene Foxhoven of Bloomingdale, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sharon on December 31, 2004 at the age of 56, and a sister, Janice Whittinger.
