Donna Georgene Bennett was born May 28, 1936, in Nampa, Idaho to David and Dorothy (Madison) Bennett. Donna was born with cerebral palsy and preferred to be called Georgene. She lived with her aunt Mattie Vanderpool in Yankton until the age of nine when she entered the Redfield State Hospital/School in Redfield, South Dakota in 1945. During her time in Redfield Georgene continued to make advancements much faster than anticipated. On November 2, 1983, she moved to a group home in Yankton and later became a resident of Sunset Manor Avera Health in Irene on December 30, 1993.
Georgene was always very social and loved being around people. She enjoyed attending the activities at Sunset Manor and loved to color, sew lacing cards, and putting playing cards in the correct order. She was loved by the staff at Sunset Manor and they became her family. She was always able to put a smile on your face.
Survivors include her family and friends at Sunset Manor in Irene.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

My sympathy to Georgene's friends and caregivers at Sunset Manor Avera. She was a special lady. I am thankful I had a chance to visit with her last week.
I was so sorry to see of Georgene's passing! She was such a joy to visit with during worship! My daughters and I started participating in worship monthly with Pastor Mindy about 11 years ago and continue now with Pastor Dana. It didn't take long to get to know Georgene and look forward to that smile and "Hello". I am so sorry I was unable to get to her visitation today! My daughters, Holly and Denise and myself offer condolences to her family at Sunset Manor. She will be missed!
