Joan Lorraine Becker, age 87 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena, Nebraska with the Rev. Jeremy Hans and Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception cemetery in rural St. Helena, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Friday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services in church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Hans, Elliot Lund, Steve Kline and Judy Burbach.
Active Pallbearers will be George Hans, Bryce Lund, Joe Stappert, Dan Albrecht, Judy Medeck and Donna Becker.
Lorraine Joan Becker was born on July 22, 1929 in Yankton, SD to Claude Ignatius and Theresa Josephine (Wieseler) Becker. She grew up in the St. Helena area and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton, SD. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Yankton as a registered nurse. Joan worked at the St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood, California and was the head nurse in obstetrics. Joan moved back home in 1958 to care for her mother when she was sick. She worked as a receptionist for the lab at Sacred Heart for 2-3 years. Joan then was the housekeeper for area priests in St. Helena, Hartington, Tilden, and in Omaha for Rev. Anthony Tresnak and Monsignor Hanefeldt. Joan and her twin sister Jean Hans shared a home in Yankton together after she retired in 2009.
Joan was a very prayerful person and was always dedicated to her jobs, especially as the priest's housekeeper. Joan was a member of Holy Family parish.
She is survived by her four sisters Loretta Albrecht of Yankton, SD, Claudette Stappert of Coleridge, Marilyn (Loren) Lund of Bassett, NE, Jeri (Marcel) Backman of Wynot; many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Jean Hans, sister, LuAnn Kline; three brothers-in-law James Albrecht, Gerald Hans, and Charles Stappert.

Jeannie and all the Hans': What great stories I have heard ever since we were children about your fun Aunt Joan! She was a stylish, classy lady who had a deep and devote love of God and her Catholic Faith. May her memory be forever Blessed. Her legacy will certainly live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
