Geraldine Bauer, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services are 4:00 PM, on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Yankton Church of Christ, 1114 W. 12th Street in Yankton. Cremation will take place after the funeral and burial will be in Bonesteel, South Dakota at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Geraldine "Gerry" was born June 8, 1927 near Dallas, South Dakota to Ray and Anna (Johnson) Shutt. She grew up on her parents' farm and attended a rural school through the 8th grade and then attended one year of high school in Dallas. The family moved to the Bonesteel and Fairfax area and Gerry graduated high school in Fairfax, SD. She taught rural school while earning her college degree in teaching. She taught five years in South Dakota and then 10 years in Helena, Montana. Gerry married Tom Bauer in Helena and had two children, Mark and David. Gerry and Tom were later divorced and she moved to Gallup, New Mexico where she taught Kindergarten. Gerry moved to Yankton and in 2004, Gerry became a resident of Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. She enjoyed planting flowers, playing Pinochle, giving gifts, sending cards and visiting friends.
Gerry is survived by two nephews, Larry and Frank Schonebaum; and her church family in Yankton.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark; two brothers, Dale and Harry; and a sister Dorothy.
