William H. "Bill" Bass, age 91, of Crofton, Nebraska died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Hartington, Nebraska.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March10, 2010, at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton with Reverend Bob Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the Crofton Cemetery with military honors provided by the Crofton American Legion Post 128. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steven Kuehn, Jeffery Kuehn, Brian Kuehn, Shane Bass, Wayne Bass, and Brian Gyhra.

William was born March 11, 1918 to Richard and Anna (Givens) Bass in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He grew up in New Rockford, North Dakota and graduated from Central High School in New Rockford in 1937. He enlisted into the US Army in 1942 where he served his country during World War II. He married Ruby May Lucht on June 5, 1943 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. After returning from the war they moved back to New Rockford where he worked for Swift & Co. as a shipping clerk. In 1968, they moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where they lived until moving to Jasper, Indiana in 1974. They lived in Jasper a short time until moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where they lived until moving for the last time to Crofton, Nebraska in 1980.

He was a member of Ray B. Thorn American Legion Post #30 in New Rockford, North Dakota and a member of the VFW in Cheyenne, North Dakota.

Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie (Thomas) Kuehn of Fargo, North Dakota; two sons, Robert (Priscilla) Bass of Coal Valley, Illinois and Bruce (Kim) Bass of Weston, Nebraska; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; one step-great great grandchild; and sister, Patricia Johnson of Rockford, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruby on June 15, 2002 at the age of 81; three brothers, James, Richard, and Henry Bass; and sister Gay Willey.
