Lucille O. Arens age 81 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. Timothy Podraza officiating. Burial will be at Beaver Creek cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will be on Monday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning at church one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton, NE.
Pallbearers will be David Arens, Tony Arens, Dan Arens, Gary Arens, Kevin Kneifl, and Jeff Steffen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lucille's grandchildren.
Lucille Olivia Arens was born on November 9, 1935 in Constance, NE to Joseph G. and Christina E. (Guenther) Schieffer. She grew up in Constance where she was baptized, received First Holy Communion, and was confirmed. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, NE. Lucille married Gerald Rudolph Arens on January 25, 1955 in Constance. They lived and farmed 4 ½ miles north of Crofton. Gerald died on March 11, 2005 at the age of 74 years.
Lucille belonged to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and its guild, Christian Mothers, Frankfort Progressive Club and worked on the election board for 45 years. She prayed the rosary at the Beaver Creek cemetery for 9 weeks on Monday nights in the summer for favorable weather and the people buried there. Lucille liked to do anything with her hands, sewing, cooking, baking, crafts, gardening etc. She wasn't afraid to run any of the farm machinery through the years.
She is survived by her eight children and spouses, David A. & Ann Arens of Crofton, Marie & Kevin Guenther of Owasso, OK, Tony Arens of Crofton and friend Rhonda Hofer, Jolene & Jeff Steffen of Crofton, Dan & Lorraine Arens of Crofton, Marge & Kevin Kneifl of Lincoln, NE, Gary & Joselyn Arens of Crofton, Janice & Tom Johnston of Sioux City, IA.; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters Jeanette Wieseler of St. Helena, NE, Angela Mueller of Crofton; sister-in-law Rosemary Schieffer of Riverton, WY.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald; infant son Anthony; two granddaughters Brittney & Morgan Steffen; two brothers Arthur and Sylvester Schieffer; sister Irene Pinkelman; brothers-in-law Fredolin "Fritz" Pinkelman, Clarence Mueller, and Leonard Wieseler.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news. Your mom was an inspiration to many. She was strong and so courageous always. I have many memories of fun times at your farm house and the other Schieffer gatherings. I always looked forward to her great cooking and baking. May she rest in peace.
