Almeda M. Arens, age 70 of Fordyce, Nebraska, died on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the North Central Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Nebraska with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Schulte, Austin Arens, Wendy Jensen, Justin Jensen, Kelsey Arens, and Adam Backer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Guenther, Tim Guenther and Allen Boecker.
Almeda Mary Arens was born on March 14, 1945 in Crofton, Nebraska to Fred and Madeline (Luft) Guenther. She grew up in the Crofton area until moving to Fordyce in 1956. Almeda graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington in 1963. She worked at the Fordyce Post Office prior to her marriage to LeRoy J. Arens on June 16, 1964 in Fordyce. Almeda raised her two children and farmed with LeRoy until they both retired in 2007.
She was a member of Holy Family parish in Bow Valley and its Ladies Guild. She enjoyed her new home, gardening, baking, her flowers and playing with her grandchildren and great granddaughter.
Almeda is survived by her husband LeRoy of Fordyce; two children and spouses Michelle and Michael Schulte of Yankton, SD, Doug and Jerrie Arens of Hartington; four grandchildren Kelsey Arens and fiancé Adam Backer, Austin Arens, Wendy Jensen & Justin, and Nathan Schulte; great granddaughter Ella Marie Jensen; seven siblings and spouses Bonnie and Norbert Goeken of Norfolk, Gene and Cindy Guenther of Yankton, SD, Ken and Carol Guenther of Yankton, SD, Lila and Lorin Kuehler of Yankton, SD, Cynthia Eskins of Yankton, SD, Don and Beth Guenther of Waverly, NE, and Caroline Guenther of Sioux City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Madeline Guenther, and grandson Craig Schulte.
