Rodney A. Anderson, age 86, of Carlsbad, California and formerly of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Monday, July 13, 2015 at ActivCare at Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad, California.
Memorial services are 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton.
Rod was born May 14, 1929 in Yankton County to Anton and Rosella (Hill) Anderson. He attended Slowey Elementary School (across Hwy. 81 from Anderson's Corner), located north of Yankton. He graduated Yankton High School in 1946, at which time he was working for Keating Creamery Co. For the next eight years, he worked in the Civil Service as a surveyor and cartographer for the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Washington, DC. He married Beatrice M. Monsanto on February 3, 1951, in Washington, DC. He received his BA and MS degrees in Public Service from Los Angeles State College. He was the Planning Director and Grants Administrator for the City of Upland, CA, over a period of 26 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Ontario, CA; a member of the American Planning Association (APA); a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); and held membership in the Kiwanis Club for 25 years, and the Elks Club for 30 years.
He is survived by a son, Gary L. Anderson, his wife, Lee, and their children, Anton and Chelsea and great-grandson Ford Bruhl of Carlsbad, CA; a son, Craig D. Anderson, his wife, Marcia, and their children, Sarah and Evan of Mission Viejo, CA; and a sister, JoAnn Bevers, of La Jolla, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice, (Bebe), his parents, one sister, Rosemarie, and two brothers, Wallace and George.
