Wayne "Shorty" Anderberg, age 77, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Visitation will continue at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 28 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating and military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791 and SD Army National Honor Guard. In honor of Shorty, casual dress would be preferred.
Pallbearers are Russell Anderberg, Jared, Julian and Evan Buettgenback, Jason and Jody Anderson.
Shorty was born March 19, 1936 in Hudson, South Dakota to George and Rena (Rice) Anderberg. He grew up in Alcester, SD and graduated from Alcester High School in 1955. Shorty was then drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii for two years. After his honorable discharge, he lived in Yankton. On March 22, 1964, Shorty married Patricia Franks at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD. He worked in the telephone business for almost 40 years, first for Northwestern Bell Company, then US West and finally Qwest, retiring in 1998. Shorty was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He also enjoyed working in his shop and doing carpentry work. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed.
Shorty is survived by his three children: Russell Anderberg (Sue Geffre) of Henderson, NV, Kara (Jared) Buettgenback of Lincoln, NE and Brenda Anderberg of Yankton; three grandchildren: Julian, Audrey and Evan Buettgenback; one sister, Zora (Eldean) Oaks of Sioux Falls; close nephew, Denny Anderson and many other nieces and nephews.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Anderberg on December 31, 2002; son, Eric Anderberg; two sisters, Audrey Anderberg and Marilyn "Sissy" Anderson; and four brothers: Merle "Tap", Keith "K.O.", Curt "Gramps", and LeRoy "Speed" Anderberg.
