She worked as a bank teller, a phone operator at Progressive Insurance and was a caregiver to special needs people. On February 14, 2010 Judi married Michael Nelson at Vermillion, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm east of Hartington.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with Rev. Katherine Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington with military honors provided by the Hartington VFW Post 5283.
